The Man Who Photographed the Man at the Wheel

What/Why: “Philip Storey of Gloucester has been collecting the output of Louis Blend, an amateur photographer who shot thousands of photos of tourists with Gloucester’s Man at the Wheel statue between the years 1923 and 1973. Storey will present a “snapshot” of this unique and underexposed facet of Gloucester lore. This program is free with Museum admission.”

White Mountain Breakfront

What/Why: “On Thursday evening Nov. 1 White Mountain Breakfront, also known as Lambovich IV, will be unveiled to the public. The piece combines the artistry (as well as the names) of David Lamb and James Aponovich. This collaborative piece of artwork features panels painted by Aponovich within a breakfront designed and crafted by Lamb. White Mountain Breakfront was commissioned by Shannon Chandley and Tom Silvia of Amherst, NH and celebrates the Granite State’s natural beauty, history and culture.”

From the Bustle to the Hustle: 150 Years of Women’s History in Peabody

What/Why: ““Explore the evolution of women’s gender roles from the Victorian to the modern era and the part Peabodywomen played in this transformation in From the Bustle to the Hustle: 150 Years of Women’s History in Peabody. The exhibit will feature costumes, literature, artwork, and domestic artifacts that highlight important moments in women’s history, as well as personal items belonging to such influential Peabodywomen as suffragist Mary Upton Ferrin, horticulturalist Bessie Buxton, and WWII photographer Virginia Carten. Nov. 25 – April 21, 2013. The Peabody Art Association’s popular Annual Holiday Art and Craft Show features paintings, photographs, crafts and other gift items priced at $100 or less. Nov. 25 – Jan. 20, 2013.
