While there are countless things to do in the Greater Boston area, it is on beautiful autumn days like this that I am reminded how important it is to stray from the beaten path every now and again. Amazing art is just a commuter rail/car ride away. I know sometimes its hard to get off the couch, and traveling outside the city limits can seem like such a trek, but trust me-its worth it!
That’s why I thought it might be helpful to start a series where I not only point out some of the finer artsy spots in the ‘burbs, but also things like fun eateries, local attractions, and roadside oddities like the worlds tallest filing cabinets (I’ve been. It’s in Vermont) to help you make a day of it.

What/Why: The DeCordova Museum and sculpture park is a MUST see destination. Installations scattered across the grounds(favorites include: enormous xylaphone, forest sharks, and Alice and Wonderlandish trumpet creatures) are ideal for a leisurely stroll with your favorite beverage and your favorite person. There’s even a giant heart sculpture you can take an “aww” picture with, or if unattached, watch other awkward couples pose in front of it and conjure a mental deathpool re: the demise of their relationship(“I give them 2 weeks, tops”) IN.THEORY.
The Museum itself contains over 3,000 works and features an important permanent collection of New England contemporary art. There is also a museum shop and cafe area to have a quick chat an a sit surrounded by the work of local artists.
