An Ode to Beatrix

“All outward forms of religion are almost useless, and are the causes of endless strife… . Believe there is a great power silently working all things for good, behave yourself and never mind the rest.”-Beatrix Potter

Quick post because it appears as though I actually have WORK-work to do today, but I was just thinking back to when I went to the National Portrait Gallery in London and came face to face with the likeness of Ms. Potter.

Her portrait was by far my favorite.  Dreamy oils depict the artist in the perfect light and sweetness of what I imagined one of my favorite children book writers/illustrators to look like.  Seeing her drawings brings me back to simpler times when I was wee.  I used to put spinach leaves on my guinea pig, Brownie’s head so she would resemble one of Beatrix’s woodland creatures—needless to say, her attire was promptly devoured.

Beatrix would definitely make The List if someone who has run out of things to say around me/awkward job interviewer were to ask “if you could have lunch with anyone living/dead who would it be?” Her and Sylvia Plath. And Carl Jung? Okay, extended brunch/lunch with Beatrix, classy cocktails with Jung, and clubbin’ with Plath. Done.
